Sinovel installs first 6MW turbine

The SL6000 6MW wind turbine is currently the largest in China. The prototype rolled off the production line on May 18 in Sinovel production base in Yancheng, Jiangsu province.

According to Sinovel, the 6MW turbine may be used in onshore, offshore and inter-tidal wind farms.

Industry officials said that along with the rapid development of wind power, particularly offshore wind-power projects, the market is moving towards the development of large-capacity turbines.

Zheng Fangneng, energy section chief under Ministry of Science and Technology, said that over the next five years, China will support development of big-capacity wind turbines, key components, and industrialisation technologies.

3MW to 5MW turbines and 6MW to 10MW experimental offshore turbines will be given priority.
