GE to build 100MW project in Kenya
KENYA: GE is set to build a 100MW wind project in Kenya, according to reports.
The projects will use GE's 1.6MW turbines
According to the Business Daily Africa, chief executive of Kenya's Energy Regulatory Commission Kaburu Mwirichia said he was aware the project was going ahead.
The project will be located south of Nairobi at Ngong, in the south of the country.
It follows GE's deal with Nairobi-based Aeolus Kenya to build a 60.8MW wind farm at Kinangop, north of the capital. The project will be powered by 38 GE 1.6MW turbines. The company has also signed a power purchase agreement with state utility Kenya Power.
Kenya is already pushing ahead with the 300MW Lake Turkana wind farm. In October, after months of uncertainty, the developers of the project signed a power purchase agreement with Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC).
